My 6.5 month old male Cavalier puppy still pees like a girl, but starting YESTERDAY he marks things. We went to my moms for Thanksgiving and he got her bed corner and the spare bed! OMG, happy thanksgiving to me! I have him scheduled to be neutered on Dec. 10 (I was waiting a bit longer then 6 months because one of his testicles has yet to drop). Anyway, my question is, is there something I can do at home (yes he got my arm chair...we don't have any other pets so I don't really understand that) but is there something I can do to deter him from marking my house until he gets fixed?? I use that Natures Miricle stuff to clean up the mess, can I pre-spray the corners of my furniture or is there a better idea?? He's completely house broken....except for this male thing...... Thanks.
It is hard to stop the male thing. They make male wraps, that go around their middle. You can use a womans sanitary pad, and when he lifts his leg he goes in the pad not the furnature. It can cause some diaper rash irriation, so change the pad often, and when you can watch him leave it off. I leave my off when the boys are in their crates at night or outside in their yard playing. It works great.
Simple housebreaking corrections could also work. Treat him like he is a young puppy again. good luck
This is kind of hijacking the post(sorry OP), but when are testicles supposed to drop? I always thought they should be descended by the time the pup leaves the breeder 2-3months, but I'm no expert. Is that correct or does it vary by breed/size? Harley is the only dog I've had as a pup (the rest were rescues), and I believe his were descended at 10 weeks. Is cryptorchidism a small/toy breed problem?
Normally the testes should be down, but I have seen them come down as late as a year old. Normally if a teste is not decended, I try to locate it and push it down daily. If the bands have closed with the teste up, it is never coming down. This is why if I plan to neuter, I do not let the fact the teste is not down postpone neutering. When I plan to neuter, I try to have it done before males start to lift there leg, to prevent the problem you are now having. The wrap the other posted mentioned is called a Belly Band.
