Hello I recently rescued my mini doxie...and she was sleeping and i was checking her over and i noticed in her mouth she has 2 sets of k9's I was wondering if i should call my vet and get her in sooner for a check up. She is 5 months old. I have never seen 2 sets. I had to give her a name. house train her.. i guess they didnt take her outside at all. Which is fine i dont mind training...but the 2 sets of k9's threw me off.. Any idea's? Thanx All. Ericka
It is very common in small breeds to retain their puppy teeth. The puppy teeth simply did not come out as they normally do and the adult teeth are growing in next to them. You will need to have the vet go in and remove the retained teeth. Its surgical but very simple and routine.
As lpn said it is very common in small breeds. I hope you are planning to have her spayed at about 6 months...that would be a good time to have the teeth pulled so she only needs to be put under anesthesia once to accomplish both procedures, and it is usually inexpensive also to have the teeth pulled at the same time. My minpin girl had 7 baby teeth pulled when she was spayed and my vet only charged me $5 extra!
My vet has talked to me about this as well, and told me to watch. The puppies Always lost them on their own, but he told me sometimes they have to be pulled. If not food will trap between the two teeth and cause problems and bad breath!
