We have a 2 year old German shepherd and we think she is pregnant. Her nipples are large and hanging low. No milk yet. I have used a stethoscope and have heard rapped heart beats. I have felt movement in the abdomen. Her temperament has changed to nipping at anyone other than me or my husband. And sometimes growling at us. She can not seem to get comfortable at all. She now lays on her side where as before she would stretch out and her abdomen. She has put on some wate and between her rib cage and her hips is hard and more round. I helped my cat with her labor. She acted like she was scared to death. I have to bust the sac and cut the cord and get the kitten breathing. After that she took on the rest of the litter and was a good mother to them.
I am guessing that she went out of heat around November 15 2008. My question is with what i have told you can you tell me when to expect the pups. She is or baby and we was not wanting her to have a litter yet. There was a male dog running around and we did not notice she was in heat until later.
Your vet can answer all of these questions and more as well, as if she is pregnant, how many, etc. She should have seen a long before now to make sure everything was going ok. Was she unattended while in heat? Wondering how you are not certain when/if she was bred, but know when she was in heat. Do you know what breed the father is?
The breed of the father is unknown. But he is about the same size as her. We just don't know what he is. Mixed i know. I called her vet today and they are going to do the x-ray. We just found out she was pregnant. The lady at the office said that for us to feel the pups she was about 44 days. She was not just let out to run, we have a privacy fence up and he dug under it. I just can not remember when she came out of heat.
If you think your dog's heat cycle was over on November 15th, your dog could be closer to whelp than 44 days. I would guess more like 58 days, give or take a few.It will be interesting to hear what the vet says.
I'm with Pen...if she was out on the 15th, then her etrus cyle would have fallen at least a week prior. Making her closer to whelping time than you think. As well as figuring 63 days, you also consider 5 days each way too.
we are on puppy watch. This morning her temp was at 98.6 that was at 9 am. At 6 pm her temp is at 98.8 and she is nesting and vomiting with the small contractions. She wont eat and has had very little water, she just don't wont it. Now she wont leave the nesting box. she is acting strange. I have everything that the vet told me to get. And his number is on speed dile lol.
Please tell me she has pups already! I'f been following your forum the whole day. She sounded as if she was getting her mother instinct under control. She'll be a fine mother! I have a jackrussel litter myself at this moment. Their 4 weeks old and now their starting to attack the house. No shoe or sock is safe anymore... This is actually a beautiful time for your baby. I felt the same about not wanting to have a litter but we live on a farm and the neighbours jackrussel struck by night. My jackrussel can run freely in and out of the house. It happens.
OK we now have 4 pups. She had five but one did not make it. She started last night after the vet gave her the drug to induce labor. I think it was oxutoson. The first 3 came out ok. #1 got stuck but my husband got it out. She came but first. The forth gave us a good scare. I could not get it to breath for 10 min. But he did come around. The fifth and last, the sack broke in side of her and i think he was dead when he came. We worked with him for 20 min or so and nothing at all. No heart beet or breathing.
All together she had 2 girls and 3 boys. One boy is gone. But i took the others to the vet this morning and they are healthy. Mom is doing great. If you will tell me how to put the pics up i will get it for you to see.
Mieka, if you can't control your Jack or your neighbors Jack maybe it is time to think of spaying! Is your bitch BAER tested, is your neighbors dog tested? Are they current on there CERF tests? Have they been tested for Leggs Calve Perthes? Do you know if there is any ataxia in either of the lines. All of these are REAL AND CURRENT PROBLEMS WITHIN THE BREED. There seems to be enough effected dogs out there running around without adding to the problem. I WILL SAY THIS FOR THE 100TH MILLION TIME, THERE IS ONLY ONE REASON TO BREED, FOR BREED IMPROVEMENT. ALL OTHERS ARE FOR SELFISH AND PERSON GAIN. Up until recently, I was living with 7 intact bitches and 3 intact males in my house hold. I just whelped a litter of 9, two of which were still born. This is the first litter I have whelped in a year. Because I don't let females who are in heat just run about all Willy Nilly. And then there is the case of a dog contracting brucellous from a strange dog. But then that would leave them sterile, so the problem would be solved. And how convientient for you that your bitch who just happened to be in heat got knocked up by the neighbors dog who just also happened to be a Jack and not a rottie. Things that make you go duh!!!!!!!!!!
