I have a 6 week pregnant female who is not eating or drinking hardly at all. I know at the beginning of the pregnancy they go off there food a little, but has anyone experienced the female not eating later in the pregnancy?
I have registered australian shepherd and she goes through the not eating or drinking thing through out her whole pregnancy. She does start eating fine after she has the puppies, but not until then. I would guess she eats a normal serving of food in about 3 days time...maybe more. I don't know that I would worry too much about it unless she stops eating all together, but you could ask a vet just to be sure.
Of course I would ask my vet, I just wanted some input last night until I called the vet this morning. We talked and are taking care of what we need to. I fed her an egg this morning with her food and she acted like she was starving. The vet said some dogs go off not only earlier in the pregnancy but through out as well. Which I figured would sort of be what he would say just sounds better and makes me feel better that I hear him say it.
Your female dog is only a year old. She is to young to be having puppies. That is probably part of the problem. Please dont breed her again. She is to young to be bred in the first place. Neuter your male and spay your female please.
If we ban Pit Bulls and Rottweilers are humans some dont like next ?
I figured I would get some reply like that. And it's pointless, I'm sick and tired of people like you posting replies telling people they dont know what there doing because there asking questions or better yet in my case WANTED SUPPORT! She is almost two, but it doesnt matter I'm not getting into how many days, hours, minutes....until she is two. I know where you got your info from and it means nothing. What if I was the most experienced person on this site but still get nervous when my female(s) are pregnant and something looks wrong? Is it wrong to try to communicate to others for SUPPORT! Oh, but I know what people like you would say, well if your so experienced you wouldn't be on here. Well *&%$ if I do and *&$# if I don't. This site should be "if you want to get put down by others who think they know best post here." If you didn't think you knew best then you wouldn't always be putting others down by saying, you shouldn't breed, you shouldn't own a dog, dont you know if somethings wrong take them to the vet. GGRRRRRR....to all that do this.
The last poster was simply being honest. She should not be bred until she is 2 yrs of age, not only due to maturity, but she cannot get her health clearances done and be official until then. Breeding should be kept in the best interest of the dog.
Back to your original question: I wold simply make whatever additions to her food neccesary to get her to eat. The raw egg is great if it works, very good for her. Cooked hamburg, rice, chicken cook or raw, even broths, anything to entice her since her nutrition is more important than ever right now. Good luck, hope something works.
