Hi i am wondering what a beagle is like to live with so any beagle owners please send feedback i have a smallish house and small to small-medium sized yard. I have heard that beagles sniff too much therefore try to escape and you can't let them off the leash because they might run and chase something. Also how much excersise does it need and can i leave it alone at home available to out doors for 6-7 hours while i am at school i will give it a walk before school and i live next to the beach. Thanks a heap roxiexxoo
Beagles are great family pets... they have a friendly disposition and are very loving dogs. Ive had beagle for 20 years.
Now in saying that all breeds have their idiosyncrasies. Beagle are hounds and as such can howl when they are excited or lonely. They have a strong instinct to track so its best never to leave them off leash until you are really sure they wont take off on you.
If a beagle gets out they often wonder off due to their tracking instincts so you need to really make sure your yard is escape proof and that you beagle is tagged and micro-chipped.
Beagles come in two recognize sizes 13" and 15". most are tri color but some of bi colored. They do shed. The main health issue with beagle is epilepsy which is a result of the breeding of the dog. however, not all have this condition...its just a possibility. Other breeds have other issues so this isnt unique to Beagles.
