My male german rott has been with a female german rott while in heat, but although she backs up to him and he attempts to mount her for some reason he just backs off. I am wondering if anyone could answer why this is happening I would appreciate it.
Echoing Windy's question, how old are the dogs? Just because you have a female in heat and a male, it doesn't automatically mean that they will breed, especially if they're young, and inexperienced. You may have to help the male, and if it's your bitch's first breeding, you must never leave them alone.(I never leave any of mine alone, first breeding or not) You should always have control of the bitch's head, in case she decides to attack the male, and if that were to happen when the dogs are tied, great injury could result to your male. Good luck.
Pen2, I'm not sure good luck is really what this guy needs. Maybe the fact that he is having trouble getting them to breed should make him rethink his decision of breeding at all. Sounds to me like he could probably benefit from a lot more research, maybe a mentor, etc.
pinloverX2, I agree with you. I also know that a lot of people don't listen, and go ahead with breeding uninformed. That's the only reason I gave the advice I did. Of course he should have a mentor, and do a whole pile of research,, but up to this point, has not done so.
