I am considering taking in an adult male Newfoundland but I have a few questions. How much do they actually eat? Are they friendly with other dogs (I have a chow who loves other dogs)? What is their temperment like? ( I have read they are pretty easy going) Do they need any special grooming? I live in an apartment but have 2 huge parks within walking distance will this be enough exercise?
I would apperciate any info I have read up on them but first hand exprience for someone always helps.
They do need a lot of grooming, but you can brush daily, make sure to get belly and inside of legs good that is where they seem to gather matts, it helps to trim the hair on the pads of their feet too if you are inexperienced is best to have a groomer do it. Most Newfie are pretty laid back and even though a BIG dog daily walks should be suffient exercise they are not a hyper breed at least not the ones I have had experience with. Getting an adult dog it will be hard to know if he has issues until after you get him, you know getting along with other dogs or not, just keep watch until they are adjusted to each other.
