I just got done reading about them on that website...that offers the "rock of ages" breeder. Anyway...they look like beautiful dogs...but since you have purchased stock from them...and you would by default have the most expirience with them, what could you tell me about them? I have had many large breed dogs in the past (ie: rottweilers mostly) how would you rate them as far as trainablility, obedience, activitly level, things like??? just any information about them would be helpful, I am debating on making them my next breed. thanks alot.
Beautifull dogs, I love them, but personally would want more information about them before adopitng/buying one. Also, if it was a shelter dog it is not nessisarily the dog that was born that way. It could have been hundreds of different things that made that dog agressive.
I am a proud owner of a male canis panther. For those of you who would like to know more about them I will give you a few details on my boy. He is 10 months old and about 100 lbs. full grown he will be between 120-140 lbs. so he will be quite a large dog. He is buckskin in colour and probably one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen. I have people stop me all the time to tell me how beautiful he is and to inquire about his breed. I chose not to get his ears cropped so this gives him a softer look but his tail is cropped. He is highly intelligent and extremely loving. He is also very protective and wary of people he doesn't know. He takes a while to warm up to people and even then he is not affectionate to anyone but his family. This breed is not for everyone but I must say I couldn't be happier with my boy. I always feel loved and safe with him.
I checked out the site, and I'm glad they aren't saying that it is a rare breed. Hopefully its all done responsibly. I also like the fact that, they are similar to Pit Bulls but the size of the head is much narrower. But could this be the next breeding nightmare. The Pit bull has been bred so much, and look whats happened around the world. I don't like the comment about the dog as the protector of the family, I have mixed feelings about that statement. I agree the name is not that great but, I guess thats not really that important.
Ew, another designer dog. I don't care how long they have been doing this, you don't mix bulldogs with guardian breeds. Look at Bandogs for example. These dogs combine a bulldog (Pit Bull) drive with the wary, aggressive nature of a mastiff. This creates a dog that I would NOT want to have around my house.
This being said, I would NOT own a Canis Panther. I did research on these mutts awhile back, and I still don't like them. Yes, some of them are beautiful. But guess what: Your local animal shelter has just as many beautiful 'bandogs'. Doberman, Rottweiler, and Pit Bull mixes are EVERYWHERE. If you don't have at least 10 in your shelter, your not living on Earth.
If you want a guardian dog, why not get a real breed? Rottweilers, Tosa Ken, Presa Canario. . . All good breeds in their own way.
In my last advanced obedience class we had a Cane Corso and a Canis Panther. It was a very big dog.It was very sweet with peaople. dominite with small dogs,The owner said it housebroke easy and is very protective. He said it had a temperment very much like a neo mastiff.
to all the OWNERS of the CANIS PANTHER, I;m very interested in buying a CP, but I need to know for how much did you guys buy them for. Especialy to those who bought them from Rock of Ages Kennel. Well thank you for all your help
Gamedog, the "wary, aggressive nature of a Mastiff"? Mastifs are not wary or aggressive. Mine was one of the friendliest dogs ever. I had her for about 12 years, and I heard her bark three times, when there was a threat to her family, and she never growled. Yeah if you came over and tried to hurt me, the Mastiff would put a painful end to you (as she did for her previous owner), but what dog wouldn't?
Im all for dogs with character - However, this Xbreed takes the Alpha dog concept way too far. They sound downright dangerous by their very nature - (IE: If your not a family member - then your dead meat), and Pitty's despite a bad rap. still tend to have a character which is a reflection on their Owners / Trainers character and methods - Rather than an inbuilt / genetic waryness and distrust (Agressive Tendancy) towards strangers. Could someone please refer me to some online resources that clarify this Xbreeds details - Thanks in advance.
