It is normal for her to be passing blood, but it should not be bright red fresh blood, and it should be a small amount tapering off to nothing. I agree with DD, a check up is in order, since she may also need an iron supplement as well. Good luck with her, and thankyou for rescuing her.
In my experience, the females will spot a dark red bloody vaginal drainage for about two weeks. Did all the placentas pass with the puppies? If she has a retained placenta it can cause some major problems. The other posters are right. She should be checked by a vet, esp. since she was a stray and God only knows what kind of care she has had in the past. I'm glad she found you. Good luck with her and all the puppies. Will you keep her?
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read!! Groucho Marx
So I am wondering how this new mom is faring? Has she seen the vet yet? My friend and I both make sure our dogs get a shot of oxytosin after their c-sections to help speed the 'clotting' along and help prevent infection. They still 'clot' for a little while though.
