I need some advice...last night my husband let our 12 wk old Germ Shep Puppy out and didn't tell me. I was closing the garage (manually), looking up as I pulled down she was under it. She cried so loud I picked her up and she calmed down pretty quick but was limping on her right paw. This morning she's happy and playful but still has a little limp. My friends all say to wait and she will be fine they think it's just sore but I am wondering if I should take her in and get an xray or just give it another day...man I feel like such a jerk...poor little pup. Any advice is helpful.
and I already ordered a garage door opener with laser so this doesn't happen agian.
AW. Poor mom and puppy . Have you felt along the foot and leg and does it hurt alot? Could be a small break, or could just be sore. At a minimum, I would probably keep her quiet with as little activity on that leg and foot as possible while you are trying to figure out what you want to do. Have you called your vet's office to see what they reccomend?
Please take your dog to the vet and get the x-ray...long story short:
My Boston Terrier's leg was broken. We did not know it as she walked around just fine, not even the slightest limp was detected.
Later, a small knot came up on her leg. The knot grew a little bigger but she was pregnant and the vet did not want to chance harming the puppies by doing any x-rays. (Since this horrific incident we have switched vets!) So, we let it go. By the time she weaned the pups, the knot was HUGE.
Again, this is a long story but, the leg was in fact fractured and never set properly Since it was not caught early enough, osteomyelitis set in and eventually ate through her tibia which ultimately resulted in amputation last Wednesday. I'm not in any way implying that your dog is going to lose her leg over this but it's always just best to pay a little now rather than a lot later.
I hope your baby is doing well. My little Maddie got her stitches out today and is healed perfectly!
