My dog is by far one of the most pickiest eatter I possibly have ever seen. I adopted him about 4 months ago from the Humanes Society, he is a Carin Terrier. He is a little over a year old. I have tried him on all different brands of food (Nutro, Science Diet, Wellness and now he is currently on Natural Balance)...I have mixed his food with chicken I made, scrambled egg, chicken soup, cerael, water (heating it up to make the food a little soft) etc. I really want to keep him on hard food so that his teeth does not get bad. He doesnt like soft food, doesnt like hard food, doesnt like much of anything. He had an allergic reaction to Nutro and had a cortizone (sp?) shot. I am just dont understand what more I can do to get him to eat. I do not keep the food down all day (I am trying to train him so that he eats once a day and the food in only there for 30min). My question is: Do you recommend any good brand of dog food? Treats? Anything to put in the dog food? Please help me. I have taken him to the vet; and basically the vet told me, just keep trying different foods. Would anyone have any good recommendations for this topic? I would very much greatly appreciate any help!
Not sure if this will help but my dog seems to be a bit of a picky eater also we feed him iams and mix in ceaser wet dog food just a little of the wet and ad a little warm water so the wet food isn't so cold. I too tried lots of food the more expensive ones he didn't really care for except special food I got from the vet when he was sick and he even tired of that. I have to switch back and forth between beef and chicken he get tired of the same flavor all the time. hope this helps a little
I would pick a grain free food, like Orijen or Innova Evo, and just stick to it. I would also leave the food down, not take it away. He may be a grazer, and it's obvious that it would be safe to free feed him. I would not give any treats until he starts eating his dry food, and he will not starve himself. Have you had his teeth checked to make sure he doesn't have a bad tooth, causing him pain when he eats? Good luck with him.
