My dog is by far one of the most pickiest eatter I possibly have ever seen. I adopted him about 4 months ago from the Humanes Society, he is a Carin Terrier. He is a little over a year old. I have tried him on all different brands of food (Nutro, Science Diet, Wellness and now he is currently on Natural Balance)...I have mixed his food with chicken I made, scrambled egg, chicken soup, cerael, water (heating it up to make the food a little soft) etc. I really want to keep him on hard food so that his teeth does not get bad. He doesnt like soft food, doesnt like hard food, doesnt like much of anything. He had an allergic reaction to Nutro and had a cortizone (sp?) shot. I am just dont understand what more I can do to get him to eat. I do not keep the food down all day (I am trying to train him so that he eats once a day and the food in only there for 30min). My question is: Do you recommend any good brand of dog food? Treats? Anything to put in the dog food? Please help me.
If you go to petsmart into their vitamin/med section you can buy this paste called nutri-cal it is super concentrated paste for finiky eaters and dogs that are not feeling well, it has directions of how to use. It is Really HIGH in calories and B vitamins which help increase appetite, I would not use it as your sole source of calories , but a lot of times they need some extra b-vitamins to incresase their appetite. When I worked at vet clininc ALL dogs that would not eat got b-vitamins. It is worth a try. GOOD LUCK, also a trip to vet to make sure theri is no underlying cause is a good idea.
Think about this, if he doesn't eat, you make all these special dishes????? Decide on a brand, take a handful of the dry put it into his bowl, set the bowl down for him, if he walks away, pick up the bowl and put it away. Eventually hes going to get hungry. If you put the food down and he takes a few kibbles, eats them and then walks away, put the bowl away, try again tomorrow. decide on your feeding time, say 8 am and 4 pm, only offer on those times. Never leave the bowl down all day and stick to one brand. I feed my dogs one meal a day, thats it. If I drop a peace of chicken on the floor while cooking and my female gets it, you can be sure she will skip a few meals, to see if something comes along better. If I fed her chicken all the time she would soon snuff that.
When I look up into the sky, I think to myself, Wheres the ceiling?
