Can anyone help me? Have a golden retriever-bout 7 yrs old now,was given to me by her owner 3 yrs ago,she was in training classes, very smart dog.Since I've had her,she hasent been in training, was wondering how would I go about now at retraining her.I think she still knows some of the stuff she was trained for ex:not to kiss a persons face, she was taught to lick your hand instead.Very beautiful girl she is,name Jewels,I nicknamed her my Ju-Ju Beans.
I do not think dogs are ever to old to learn. Sign up for local obedience class that way you learn too, and I am sure your girl will do great and remember everything she learned before plus may be some new stuff. Was she a obedience competition dog?
No Jujubeans was never in obedience competition but do you really think if I were to take her to training, she would remember everything? Do you think the comands would've changed in a few years? I would love to know everything she was taught and is capable of knowing.Do you know if this breed of dog are very smart? She really seems to understand alot of stuff.Never had a dog in all my life with such a great temperment.
yes, a dog training class can benefit an older dog as well as a puppy. Pretty much the only thing is be very patient and work hard. A training class is really more about training the owner. Once the owner's trained the dog will follow.
