My puppy is turning 1 this week . He has had all his shots up to date and has been generally healthy. This week he got into our cats food. He had a few poop accidents around the house the same day. Which is highly unusual for him. He also puked a few times . Things seemed to be getting back to normal however his poop was still a little runny. This morning I noticed that after he finished doing his business he had a little drop of blood on his bum. There was NONE in his poop is this just from having had diarrhea ? I imagine his anus must be tender from this. Should I just monitor today or should I take him to my vet ?
My dog was recently diagnosed with Giardia which is an intestal problem cause from a parasite. I looked it up after I learned he was infected and your dog's symptoms seem to fit. Runny and bloody stool. My puppy was also recently bought and 2 months old. Search Giardia and see if any more of his symptoms fit. I recommend calling your vet.
If he was having (excuse the spelling), alot of diarreha, and was straining alot, generally there is a bit of blood. If it doesn't clear up in a day or 2, call the vet. He should be fine tomarrow as long as his poo is back to normal. If his poo isn't back to normal by now, CALL YOUR VET.
It's likely that by getting into your cats food, your dog has GI upset. Some dogs just have sensitive stomachs. The constant diarrhea can irritate the bowel which causes some bleeding. As long as the blood is coating the poop and not inside it, there isn't much to worry about. If you are established with your vet you could call and ask for them to dispense metronidazole, which helps with diarrhea, and metaclopramide helps with vomiting. Good luck!
