My miniature dachshund has just turned one year old..... And about 2 weeks ago (Im sure he didnt have it before) I realized that he has an extra tooth which has grown right behind the tooth that is next to the canine....(towards the front)
It doesnt look like its a problem to him. He closes his mouth well and all the teeth seem to fit in well.
Has anyone experienced this before? Should something be done?
I dont have time to go to the vet for the next 2 weeks, so I was interested in hearing other people`s experiences for the time being
What you are seeing is a retained puppy tooth. The tooth will throw the bite off as well as collect bacteria and tartar moreso than any other area of the mouth. Your vet cab pull it, which is the best route.
Yes, it should be removed. Our puppy didn't lose her baby canines and the vet said that there was a great chance for infection or abcess if they weren't pulled. Normally they would do it when the dog is spayed or neutered.
