I have a 8mth jack russell. He is my dog in that I do the training, feeding, bathing and walking. He seems to get aggressive towards my husband and will nip at someone who comes here me when he's sitting in the chair with me. Sometimes the dog has been asleep and a sudden move towards me causes him to nip at the person. What can I do to stop this behaviour? Jackjasper
I had this problem early on, and I received some great advice from my breeder. When he nips, immediately encircle his snout with your thumb and forefinger, or grab his snout shut with your fingertips, and give a quick tight squeeze and growl NO! This mimics the reaction he would receive if he were to nip his mother or his pack alpha. You can do a variation on this technique by also putting him into a dominance down. Either way, you are telling him who the alpha is and that his behavior is not cool.
