First of all, my name is Josh and my dog's name is Boxer. He is a mini Daschund and just recently lost the ability to move is back legs. I read terricpets memeber, zolts, post about his story with his mini Daschund, Lou, and cried like a baby thinking about my Boxer. I feel really happy that Lou got better, but I'm in a deep state of depression about Boxer's situation and it's killing me to see him in a cage.
The vet says he has a ruptured disk and 2000 dollar surgery would be the best way to go, but I'm a student in college, my parents can't afford surgery either, and I will not be able to live with myself if we have to put him down. The vet did also say that medication is a possibility and Boxer is currently on it now. He has only been taking the meds for 3 days now, and his symptoms remain the same. It's killing me writing this and I don't even know if any of this is making sense because I'm still crying listening to Boxer cry next to me, but I hope someone could help me out if the meds don't work. Anybody please. I agree with zolts when he wrote that Boxer isn't a pet to me, he is my best friend and I want to everything I can to help him get better. Failure is not an option. I hope to hear from everybody soon and thank you for taking the time to read this.
I'm sorry to hear about Boxers situation. If the medication does not work would your vet be kind enough to allow you to make payments on the surgery? You say that failure is not an option and if surgery is the only way to go you may have to find a way to pay for it. If anyone here has any other suggestions I hope they answer you. It's terrible to watch our sweet dogs suffer. My friend has a doxie that came through that surgery well. Let us know how he's doing.
