Hi all, my name is Amanda and I'm new here. I'm thinking about getting a new pup. I'm in my 20s and have 3 cats. I need a dog that can get along well with my cats. The pup will have alot of one on one time. It will not really be around any kids. Just mostly me and my mom. Can anyone help me with what kind of breed I should get?
You need to research what you want first. What I can tell you is most terrier such as westies, JR, schnuzers, etc. can be a problem around anything small and fuzzy. They were bred to hunt small fuzzy animals.
Any young pup should do fine raised with the cats. It is up to what you want. You can go to AKC.org, and rarebreed.com, and look up tons of different dogs. Start there, then ask for peoples opinions. I love my mini aussies, so of course I would recommend them
Hi Amanda. I don't know if you want a big or small dog but I would recomend the Boxer. They love everyone and everything. They can be funny about grown cats but as long as you raise it with the kitties they will be fine. We raise several breeds of dogs but I most recomend the Boxer for a good playful loving companion. I have 3 kids ranging in age from 10 months to 5 years and my Boxer gets along well with all of them.
I love Boxers, having had two. But they really do take a long time to mature and calm down. They are very high energy dogs. We had ours for about 2 years before my son was born. They were great with him, but if they decided to make a mad dash through the house they would bowl him over and never miss a beat. But since it won't be around kids, thats not an issue for you. We actually got ours about a year apart. The one played so rough with my Bostons that we thought she should have someone her own size to play with. (what were we thinking?) But they were lots of fun, and we still miss them very much.
