i adopted a puppy from a shelter and he had a runny nose and was on meds when i took him home. few days later, the meds ran out and he still wasn't better. a week later he still has a runny nose and sneezes more often. now i'm noticing he'll randomly have this breathing issues where he'll kinda make a hacking or hyperventilating noise for about 10 seconds.
anyone know what's up? he's a 3 month old cocker/terrier mix. i'm taking him to the vet in two days. would love to hear people's thoughts and suggestions.
I was supposed to pick up a puppy from a shelter today, but they called me on Wednesday and said that she has a runny nose and is coughing. They have her on antibiotics for 10 days. They told me that I could bring her home if my dog is up to date on her Bordetella vaccine, which she is, but we opted to wait. Hopefully the antibiotics will work so we can still get her. Its one thing to get a puppy, then have it show signs of kennel cough, but it's another, for me to bring her into my house already knowing that she has it. We were so excited to have her finally be old enough to come home, then this happens. I had a Boxer that picked kennel cough from my then vets office. She always sounded like she needed to clear her throat or had something hung in her throat. It cleared up pretty quickly with meds, though. Good luck with your puppy. The breathing issues would worry me a bit. I hope that you get her straightened out soon.
That's one thing about dogs in shelter, they are susceptible to diseases such as kennel cough . Although I still would rather get a dog in shelters than buy it in puppy mills. Puppy mills is a big no no..
