I was wondering if there is a place, or if it is even possible to purchase Rabies Vaccines? There is a farm and ranch store here that lets you purchase the canine distemper shot and administer it your self, which I have done for years with all my dogs, but I am curious if you can do the same with the Rabies vaccine. Thanks.
Depends on what state you live in. Missouri will only recognize a vet giving the rabies shot to the animal. I have been told that the rabies vaccine can be purchased at a local farm and home store, but what is the point if an issue comes from a bite. It would be just like you never gave the shot becauce it wouldn't be state recognized. But you might live in another state with different regulations.
Thanks. I think you can order rabies vaccines out of the pet supply catalogs, but they may not ship to your state since it is a vet given injection. But if you don't live in town [where there is an ordinance of haveing to have that shot], or not a breeder, and your dog or cat will not be around someone they will bite, and you are wanting to just make sure your pet is protected against rabies from wildlife then good luck in your search to acquire and give the shots to your pets. I live in Oklahoma and I know here that if you give the shot yourself there is no record of it and a receipt won't work (I checked that with an attorney) so even though you can buy it from the feed store it's better to have that one given by vet for legal purposes in case there is any question since it is required here. I'd just check the laws/ordinances before trying it. I know my brother purchases the distemper, parvo, wormer and anything available administers those himself for all 4 of his dogs and it's not a problem just not the rabies because here you have to have a tag with a number which can only be distributed by a vet. Good luck!
