I am reaching out to all animal lovers to help me through my Danes' recent behavior. Big Al is 10yrs old(yep that's right)and he is a Blue Merle. He has never had a sick day in his life, we have been blessed with him as a fantastic family member. He recently started acting lethargic, not eating much but still drinking and urinating fine. I know he is old, he got a check up on his birthday this month and the doctor was impressed with his health, alertness and puppy curiousity. When he walks he sometimes crosses his rear legs and stumbles. I do massage him and he never cries in any sort of pain. My question is what do I give him to make him interested in eating again? His last check up on 3/11/09 weighed him in at 188 lbs. Any ideas?
I would look at different things on the computer but before you give him anything make sure you do research on it. I'm sorry to hear about that and I'm very surprised that he has lived as long as he has. You should talk to your vet about it, maybe she can help you out on this.
My Sammy loves warmed peanut butter and baby rice cereal mixed whenever her tummy hurts. When we first got her she wouldn't eat so I made that for her and gradually mixed it into her food until she started eating again. We used the same trick on our German Shepherd pups when they would get sick. My great-grandpa and step-dad both bred German Shepherds. It's a rather inexpensive, yet tasty solution. The only set back we've had is that whenever I make my son a peanut butter sandwich our Sammy begs for one too.
