I am reaching out to all animal lovers to help me through my Danes' recent behavior. Big Al is 10yrs old(yep that's right)and he is a Blue Merle. He has never had a sick day in his life, we have been blessed with him as a fantastic family member. He recently started acting lethargic, not eating much but still drinking and urinating fine. I know he is old, he got a check up on his birthday this month and the doctor was impressed with his health, alertness and puppy curiousity. When he walks he sometimes crosses his rear legs and stumbles. I do massage him and he never cries in any sort of pain. My question is what do I give him to make him interested in eating again? His last check up on 3/11/09 weighed him in at 188 lbs. Any ideas?
When I was having trouble getting my Boston to eat before I lost her to a brain tumor, I mixed some chicken in with her food to get her to eat it all. That was the only way that she would take an interest in it. I had to crush her pills and mix them with chicken baby food, but as you can imagine, that made her stools really soft. Good luck with your big guy! Its so hard to watch them go down hill after being so healthy and active.
my shar pei/lab mix when through that before we lost him. We put him down 2wks ago. I used insure(the kind people drink). It worked great. He ate all of his food. He did put on a bit of weight, so I had to cut his dry back a bit. I used 1/2 bottle once a day. And buy the off brand, its cheaper.
His hips finally went and nothing helped, he was 16yrs.
