My little 14 month chihuahua honey has had problems over the last 6 months. I thought it was kennel cough initially however my vets now think it's enongated soft palate. I went to see a specialist at the weekend and they said without doing surgery they can't c how severe it is and also how her trachea is doing.
They have recommended surgery which will cost £1500! She starts gagging when she's excited, cold air hits her, drinks water etc. She also grunts alot in general it's like walking a pig on a lead!! They have said coz she's so small there could be complications, the recovery being the main concern. As if get Tongue swells it could stop her breathing.I have put her surgery for 6 weeks so I can work on her loosing weight as she's over weight. I don't want to put her under surgery as it's scared the he'll out of me! Has anyone experienced this with their chihuahua? Any advice would be great!
Being overweight will definatley make a dog make the snorting sounds. My neighbors dog does it, she needs to loose like 5 lbs. Small dog. I would lover her kibble. No table scraps. broccoli for snacks, if she likes it. also add a fer veggies to her kibble. More walks. It could be the problem all together. A small dog say one that should be about 10 lbs only needs about 1/4 approx cup morning and evening of premium kibble. Not anything sold at the grocery store. like Beniful, or skippy, or even eukanuba, Iamms, science diet. Get your dog food at the small mom and pop stores. Corn and wheat free. Your dog will be much healthier. Corn and wheat are known allergans for many dogs. Not all, but many. Innova Natural Balance Blue Buffalo Cannidea Artemis These are just a few of the good kibbles. Good luck.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
