My 5 yr old Rottweiler fell down steps about 5 wks ago. A few days later she slipped on the kitchen floor. I noticed her walking funny after this, and always falling on the kitchen floor. Vet says probably neurological. Her back legs are crossing, and sometimes she'll step on the top side of her foot. Will still run in the yard, but falls when turning. Doesn't seem in pain. Legs tremble slightly when standing, sometimes. Also sits funny, back farther on her butt with legs straight out. Any ideas or similar situations? Thanks.
I know rotts are proned to have hip problems I have two rotts of my own and due to thier massive body they do have many many hip problems. It sounds like it is nero. It could also be your foor. My rotts have great trouble walking on my hardwood floors they are falling all the time. If your floors are slippery it could be that your dogs feet can't get tractions on the floor. But it really does sound nero and if so there really is nothing that can be done but to love him/her and wait until they are called back home. As long as they are not in pain all you can do is try and make his/her life wonderful.
Kalm, I have to say you are very wrong! If what the dog is displaying is NEUROLOGICAL there is a lot that can be done! Judging by the history of falling down stairs then suddenly having trouble with the hind limbs, this dog may be suffering from a bulging or herniated disk, which can be surgically repaired. Good luck and give us an update!!!
