Hi, I bred my Westie after checking with the Vet. She was bred with a very old male (11 yrs). After 45 days she was xrayed and examed by the vet. He said NO puppies. She is now at day 63 and acting very strange. Nesting, carrying around stuffed animals, whining. Is it common for the false pregnancy symptoms to only start now? She did not show any nesting patterns before yesterday.
Thankyou for the replies. It's day 64 now and we're pretty sure it must be a false pregnancy. She's packing around her stuffed toys now like they were puppies, but she's whining alot. Any ideas how long to expect this to last?
Hello! I know exactly what you are talking about! I'm not a vet but my boxer would have false pregnancies till we had her fixed! And she did everything that you described and it would last for about 7-9 days. I would start playing with her with the toys she was using as babies and she would come out of it! i agree with the others and would have her re-xray, we bred my boxer 2x's and she would have pups around the 62-65 day, but by this time she was huge!! I mean you could look at her to know she was pregnant! I hope everything works out for you & your family!!
While very possibly a false pregnancy, I would not take any chances. She could just be late, she could have only one puppy and is not able to get labor started. Sometimes a single puppy count does not release enough of the hormione that stimulates labor and vet intervention is needed.
Even though a false preg is likely, if it were my girl, i would sucj up the small vet bill and know for sure.
