I've inherited a yorkie poo from my son and his wife. They thought it would be a distraction for their two year old son. Guess what...it didn't happen. Had him for two weeks. Anyway, I know nothing about this pup. They got him at four months old....from what I think was a puppy mill. He is not trained and I think he has a few issues. I have a few questions, but any information would be helpful. He looks like a rag-a-muffin. Do these pups need to be groom? What do I feed this pup and how much? He is always going for my older dogs food. I really can't remember anything about puppyhood, but I know he will probably start chewing things, what should I get for that. He hates the crate with a passion. I go to take him out and he pees at the doorway. I have a three year old puggle and 15 year old mixed shepard and I thougt he would take their lead. Also, I have never had a male pet, are there any differences in their natures. Again, any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I can help a little. First, yes, he will need to be groomed! Both Yorkies and Poodles have higher maintenece coats, so no matter what combination he has, he will need grooming. You can learn to do this yourself or take him to a professional, but either way you will need to brush and possibly bath him inbetween. A good groomer will show you how to brush him properly, if you ask. It makes their job easier, after all.
Since he is afraid of the crate, you could try a play pen or baby gate him in a small room (the bathroom). (Be warned though, many Yorkies and Poodles are able to climb their enclosures.) If the crate you have now is the plastic variety, switching to the wire kind may solve the problem.
There are a couple of excellent threads located at the top of this forum (in bold print) that are very useful when deciding what food is best. I've never had a female dog, but both my males are awesome. They are very loving and devoted. Good luck with your new pup!
