My German Shepherd (6 months of age) got spayed about 7 days ago. Approxmiately 3 days ago, she developed a rather large fluid buildup at the surgery site. I took her to the vet and said that it was common and drained the fluid. The "bubble" went back to it's original size (pre-drain) within 24 hours of being drained. Is this indeed common? Should I get a second opinion?
I have heard about it, haven't really seen it happen. I can't say weather it is normal or not, but I would expect your vet should put in a drain tube now.
It never hurts to get a second opinion, I always feel if I have a question, I will look at different opinions. I have 2 vets that I use, and they both know about each other. One near where I work, and one near where I live. A vet shouldn't get upset, at least that is how I feel about it.
This happened to my male minpin about 3 days after he was neutered. Though it looked awful it didn't seem to bother him a lot. He was put on Lasix (a diuretic) for a week and was just fine. Hopefully your girl will continue to do well.
