Hello! I have a question for all you experts. My Granddaughter was born Monday, April 13th. She came home (they are living with us) Thursday evening. Toby (our 5 year old Malt/Pom mix) is going nuts. He just wants to lick her to death. He gets all worried and barks when she cries. He is so obsessed with her and wants to smell and lick her all the time. He seems to really love her. I am making sure to try and include Toby when we pay attention to the baby. It seems once we have let Toby get a good smell in and a couple of licks to the back of her head that he settles down but he goes through this everytime he sees her (as if it's the first time...HA HA HA....just like me...he gets so excited) He tries to lick her face but I have to hold him back from that. Are we doing the right thing? Is this a good reaction? Thanks so much, Wendy
My doxies did this with my grandaughter as well. It's in their nature. I have 4 wanting to give kisses. As long as you keep things in hand as you described, it's fine. I wasn't as careful as I should have been once, and they knocked her down from a sitting position. At least yours backs off after a few licks. Mine will keep going as long as she's in reach. Every day is a new day - they will never change - and that's OK too. Take pictures and enjoy.
