We are a first time owner of a Boxer and first time owner of an AKC registered dog. Any input from anyone out there. I know we need lots of chew toys to start. How does the the registered name of Miss Millwood Millie MAy sound? She will be called Millie. P.s. She is an all white Boxer. It was love at first sight!
Kongs are great for serious chewers. Have lots of cleaners on hand for accidents. Find a good vet you trust and get a shot schedule and spay lined up(my vets booked for the next four months and I know some are worse!). After her 2nd or 3rd set of shots(whatever your vet recommends for your area) look into a puppy training/play group.Don't take her out before then because her immune system is not yet in top shape. Get her used to new things and new people so you don't have any issues later on.
I love boxers. They are so cute and goofy. Just always be on the look out for any of the medical issues they so often get. Literally every boxer I have known in the last five years has passed from a brain tumor. One was only around three. And my friend just got a new boxer pup which is about six months old now and she had to have emergency surgery for a blockage which the vet said hes seen often in boxers lately(not sure why there is some breed issue there but it could just be we have a lot of boxers here). I am just scared away from the breed with the health issues and thats sad seeing as how i have a dobe!
Don't forget lots of pics because they don't stay young long!

Congratulations on your new puppy!! I love Boxers. I had two. One lived to be 13 & the other was 14. Pretty long for Boxers. They can be destructive. We had a basement with a couch for them and a doggie door when they were younger. When I came home from work there would sometimes be a couch cushion wedged in the doggie door where Brandy would try to take it outside to mutilate. Also, it was about 8-10 years before they stopped acting like puppies. I love the way they bend around to the side and wiggle their bottoms. We had our first Boxers ears cropped, but after seeing how painful it was we didn't put the next Boxer through it. Because they eat a lot of food, I always fed them twice a day as adults. (I feed my Boston twice a day as well, but she doesn't eat much.) Good luck with your puppy! Offer LOTS of chew toys.
I love boxers, its only breed that I will buy.. The name sounds great! My wife and I name our boxers after pro fighter or tough women! We had a boxer name Judah after pro boxer Zab Judah. And one of our females name is Layla after Layla Ali the other Hilary after Mrs. Clinton.. Just small thing we like to do! lol... But your name sounds great your gonna have a nice friend.Walk her & Invest in chew bones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That way they're to tired to chew your stuff....lol... It works!
My boxer lived to be 15 1/2. She even got the treatment for heartworms when i got her when she was 5. The people i got her from left her tied up to a tree 24/7. She finally passed from having too many seizures and they were not controllable anymore. Good luck on your new puppy.. I have a bullmastiff now and yes you will need a lot of chew toys!!
