After reading many topix about dog food vs. cat food. I have to say. Have you ever seen where this food REALLY comes from? It is scrap left over on the floors and lines of our own factories. Which brings me to my point. What is the difference. I'm sure nutrients are added. Baked to look and smell better. But in all reaility, it's all from the same place. Now I have in the past been critized for giving my dog, cat food. But after 7 years my dog is as healty as can be. She eats only cat food. So what is the difference? Maybe someone out there knows something I don't. Why will she not touch dog food. ( I'm sure after 7 years of cat food, it'd be hard to change her anyhow.) Has anyone ever had an animal so picky? If I put dog food in her bowl, she will look at me like " What is this, ewww" LOL. So I'd just like to hear from others about this issue and wonder if I'm the only one with it. Thanks Guys.......
Cat food has more taurine than a dog needs. It has more protein, which isn't a bad thing. I think, as far as I know, it would be worse if a cat was eating dog food as it wouldn't have enough taurine and arach---- (sp) acid and protein that a cat needs. Cats are obligate carnivores so they don't need grains. Dogs are carnivores too but not obligate so they can eat grains. They are primarily meat eaters but are also scavengers so they will eat whatever they can get their paws on so to speak. I guess it's more expensive because cat food generally comes in smaller bags and containers and dogs eat more. Cat food is tastier because of the higher protein and fat so I don't blame your dog for sticking with the cat food! I'm sure others who know more will chime in but that's my two cents...
In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semi human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog. ~Edward Hoagland
There is plenty of decent dog food out there. There is plenty of skeazy cat food out there. As an owner it is your job to be informed. Just because it is cat food does not make it better. It's the ingredients.. If you can't find good dog food, you didn't look very hard.
She won't touch dog food because you let your dog get picky. Dogs unlike cats will not starve themselves, but you would have to wait her out.
at food in general is richer. After 7 years of cat food I would be getting some extensive blood work and seeing if her pancreas still functions properly. You saying she is as healthy as can be doesn't mean she actually is. I hope for your sake she is fine, but looking okay doesn't mean healthy.. and she could be as healthy if not more on a more appropriate diet.
