I have adopted an 8-month old siberian husky. She's my first dog to train. The owner did not train her and I'm having problems, she's jumpy, "hypher", tugs on the leash when walked. I don't know where to start... Please help.
Another problem is that we can't walk her in the subdivision because dogs here try to harm her (including our old dogs). How can we ever walk her around?
I would start her with basic obediance class, and a perfessional instuctor. No book can really help you if you don't know what you are doing. Once you take a couple of classes, everyone will hopefully fall into place. Husky's are extremly active dogs, and require alot of excersize. Here being "hyper" is normal for her breed, you need to find fun things for her to do, like run around the back yard, etc.
Why don't you ask your local Vet. Maybe he/she knows of a person in your area that is willing to help you and send you in the right direction. There are many knowledgeable people out there that are not "professional" dog trainers and would love to help another dog lover out there with a problem like yours.Good luck...
