Im new here and looking for some help. My 4 mo lab was diagnosed Tuesday wth Parvo. He stayed at the vet until Thursday afternoon when I picked him up. While there - he had a hig fever 105-106 and it took awhile for them to get it down. Otherwise though - he had minimal vomiting and no diarreah. Thursday night he laid pretty much all night. I had to carry him to the car from the vet. They said he had walked but he couldnt walk when I picked him up. I assumed he been laying for 3 days and so weak. Friday still could not walk but was eating, drinking and could hold up head and lay on stomach and look around. Even showed signs of playing with me etc. Now its Sat and he still can not walk, get up or anything. He will hold a sitting position with his front legs if I prop him up and is now rolling over and scooting himself around in a circle. I have to carry him to pee and no stools yet.
MY question is - has anyone else's dog showed this type of recovery from Parvo. The vet said he almost died and is weak and will take time to gain his strength back. He is a lanky lab and all but all Ive read has no info on this or I cant find anyone with similar experience. Is it too soon? Any advice or experience is appreciated. Its breaking my heart to see him this way.
Is your pup any better? Basically it sounds more like there was some misunderstanding. Vets will often send home a parvo dog once they can be cared for at home since it's safer for the other animals that might be in the clinic. It didn't mean he didn't still have parvo or was recovered and was expected to be back to normal within a day or two, just that they thought he was doing well enough and you could handle it probably. That is NOT long to be at a vet for parvo. It can take weeks to recover sometimes though it doesn't sound as if his case was too bad thank goodness. If he get's worse, you bring him back. Hope he's feeling a little better now.
