I was thinking of switching to Prairie kibble. My mom feeds the Natures Variety Raw rotating diet. I looked on Wiley and don't see it listed on there. I think the ingredients look great by doing the grading scale myself. Does anyone have any experience with this food? What do you think. Max is on Canidae and is super gassy...I like the Prairie because it is available at the pet store by my house. Thanks for the feedback.
The thread with the food grading also provides a way to evaluate any food. I'm not sure of the Nature's Valley, never tried it and haven't seen the ingredients, so I'd say check it out (using the grading system). I fed my crew Canidea for ages with excellent results, then they changed the ingredients, made the bag smaller and upped the price by over $10.00 a bag. My guys now eat California Naturals and are doing well on it. Good luck, food is always a challenge!

I don't feed Nature's Variety to my dog but I do feed the canned Instinct and the Prairie homestyle canned foods to my cats. I used to feed them the dry but they didn't like it. However, they love the canned foods. I think NV is one of the best foods out there.
In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semi human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog. ~Edward Hoagland
I have a bag of NV and have been slowly introducing to Max. The day after he ate it for the first time he threw up. He has been fine since then. I am going slow. He seems to like it. The problem is, he will be eating less of the NV than Canidae. I am just trying to mix the 2 foods without overfeeding him. LOL..he would never think he is being over fed. He really loves his food all around, so I don't think he will have a hard time switching. My mom's dog was very ill on her other foods. She is loving the raw/kibble mix. I figured I would give it a try over the canidae...thanks for your comments.
We have 5 dogs and feed Nature's Variety Prairie chicken & brown rice formula. The dogs all love it, even our 4 month old Yorkie. The food is formulated for all life stages and seems to be working out well for all our dogs so far. We have only been using it for a short time because our Yorkie pup wanted to eat the adult dog food and refused to eat her puppy food. We tried different puppy food samples and then finally gave up. We were given the suggestion to try this food and it has been great. Haven't had any issues with gas or loose stools either. Our Cocker Spaniel seemed to get gassy pretty easy, and she had gas on ANY of the dog foods that we tried that were processed by Diamond (Kirkland, Diamond Naturals, Premium Edge, Chicken Soup, Solid Gold Hunden Flocken). You can get a "try it" coupon from the Nature's Variety website for a free 5 lb bag with the purchase of a bag. That would make it pretty cheap to try out anyway. Definitely feel it's worth a try.
