I have a nine week old yorkiepoo and she has a pen in the dining room with her crate on one side and litter on the other. She seems to be going to the bathroom near the litter, but still sometimes in her crate. She cries all night long. When she is finally quiet about an hour later it starts again. I have tried warm water bottles, blankets, shirts that smell like me and her, and the ticking clock. I do not know what to do in order to stop the whining. I have read to ignore her completely, which does not seem to be working and to tell her no barking in a dominant voice although I have not tried this because I do not want to be mean to her while she is in her area. Please help!!!
She will stop, sometimes it can take several weeks for them to get used to being left alone. If she was only in a crate, you could put a blanket or towel over the crate, and it seemed to work pretty well on one of mine.
Wear earplugs and hope for the best. I don't tell them anything, even saying quiet is still giving them attention.
I agree with Illusion that a blanket over the crate works well.
I have also placed a small radio in the room with my dogs and I have a classical music CD that is set on "repeat" and I play it very softly for them at night. It is very soothing and seems to work wonders.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
Don't worry about tomorrow; it has never happened before.
