I have a 9 month old German Shepard. I have been feeding him Nature's Choice puppy food for Large Breeds. My vet recommended I feed him puppy food for at least 18 months. My dog is only 9 months old and weighs 100 pounds! I was wondering if anyone knows of a good brand of dog food for my VERY LARGE German Shepard that is still only a puppy. THANKS!
Nothing against your vet, but you might want to talk to a good breeder about that. Esp. when some of the larger breeds, alot of people don't feed puppy food for more then a year. I feed Innova, or Merrick. I switch from time to time.
I raise shar peis, and because of their skin, they need a higher fat content to their dog food, I found one at our feed supply store that is 24/20 and the first ingredients are meat meal, ground corn, chicken fat, vitamin E, chicken by products. No wheat in it t all. It works really well for my dogs. It is called Sport Mix Premium (black bag) made in Indiana. I researched the nutritional needs of my breed before I went looking for a dog food. I found this one, that has more fat content in it than any other I have found. This one is reasonably priced as well. I know that especially after the dog food crisis a couple years ago, many went to feeding home made foods.
Thank you for all your replies. I just took my dog to K-9 Companions obedience school. It turns out they feed all their dogs Innova, which thanks to one of you who posted a ratings link, is by far, one of the best brands out there. I read some reviews on that brand. I found that either the dog will really do well with it, or the other extreme, they seem to get runny stool. We'll see how my dog does on in while he's away at school. Also, the owner of the school recommended I take him off puppy food since he is about as huge as he's going to get. He says he doesn't need all the extra stuff in the puppy food. Thanks again for your replies!
