Hi I'm new to this site as well as new to owning any purebred breed of dog. I now own a AKC registered Dogue de Bordeaux and my husband and I want to breed him, his previous owners were in the process of finding females and are willing to give us the contact numbers of owners of females. I really don't know what to do, how do we settle on stud fees or do we just get a puppy. I really don't want to be taken advantage of. He has already been screened for hip displaysia and passed. I'm also reading and studying up on this breed so i'm not totally clueless. Any help is accepted. Please feel free to get back to me.
I don't know what stud fees are appropriate for your breed, but I do know that if he is unproven (never produced a litter before) it will be noticably less than if he were proven. I have australian shepherds. From my expierence with them, a couple hundred bucks seems to be the norm for an unproven male, but once they were proven, the price at least doubled.
If you do decide to breed him, take pictures of the female that he is bred to and have her owner send pictures of the litter. That way you can develope a portfolio of what he has thrown when bred to a particular female. That is helpful info for you and the owners of future females.
These are not hard and fast figures for all dog breeds, just what I have expierenced with australian shepherds.
If people had emotions as pure as animals, our hearts would have to tripple in size.
