3 yrs ago someone dropped off a 1 yr old female vizsla mix. she was in heat so I had her spayed, tried to find her a good home - no luck. so she's still with us. for 2 years, she shared an outdoor pen with our male lab and they got along great. 9 months ago, she dug her way out of the pen. we fixed that and then she started climbing over. now we keep in on our property via wireless fence. that's working great for us.
unfortunately she's so hyper that I can't go outside without her being all over me, my car, etc. I also have a cocker spaniel that's a house dog. He has to go out to bathroom on a leash - he's a runner. Earlier this week, she got tangled in his leash and down i went - broken wrist! Today, she got in my car and i was trying to get her out. broken fingers on the other hand.
i've tried to train her but no luck. i've tried the turning the back to her when she disobeys - no luck. she's frightened of my husband. i don't want her scared of me but i need to be safe. any suggestions? i'm seriously considering medication - is there any tha t would help.
She needs a job and human companionship. It sounds to me from your post that she lives outside and no one pays her any mind. She is a working dog, who works with people. She needs obediance training, and indoor home. She is not hyperactive, she is lonely, full of energy from being cooped up. Take her for a walk, go to the park, play ball with her. Did you try to find a breed rescue, they may take her or have a waiting list.
I would strongly suggest Obediance classes, and some real play time.
I do play with her - at least an hour a day. We've tried bringing her in the house - she hates it! She wants to be outside to chase the birds. I've had to put away my bird feeder - she thought that we put that there for her to have birds to work! She loved it - the birds didn't.
I would have to agree that training is the best possible solution. As Illusion says, it sounds like she is very lonely and thirsting for attention. She wants to play and be active. She has gotten bored in the past 2 years and wants a more active life. Maybe like Illusion said a park or somewhere that she can play more.
Best of luck!
Don't worry about tomorrow; it has never happened before.
