can someone please give me some advice. i am so devastated right now i don't even no what to do. my dog woke up friday morning with no use of her back legs. not only that, but she is using the bathroom uncontrolably (she uses it, but doesn't realize it). we took her to the vet and they said that she has a slipped disc and a pinched nerve which is causing her not to feel her back legs. the vet put her on an anti-inflamatory and a muscle relaxer. they said that if she is not better by monday then she may require surgery. can someone please give me some hope that she will get better without surgery. :( and if surgery is required, will she be completely healed? you just here so many stories. i'm just very upset and cannot quit crying because it is so pittiful. she goes from sweet out going personality, to not even being able to walk. what to do?
We had a similar issue with our female JRT earlier this year, although not to your extent. Her diagnosis was 2 protruding discs in her neck. She was placed on steriods (prednisone) for a short time and complete cage rest for one month. Surgery was mentioned if the problem got worse. We've been lucky so far and she's come along just great without any further episodes. I was terrified when surgery was mentioned to us, and not just because of the expense of it. As an alternative to surgery, you may want to ask your vet about hydrotherapy.
