Our four labs have flies biting their ears to the point of bleeding. I have been hanging fly bags, but that just seems to attract more of them. Any help on how to stop them from biting and how to sooth my dogs ears?
you can buy a gel to put on their ears. I get mine from the vet for when Max is outside playing. For some reason the flies drive him crazy. I know it works and he doesn't seem to car that he has it on. I am trying to use the advantage topical for fleas, mosquitos, ticks, and flies this year to see if it helps. So far it has worked great. Good luck....
There are alot of fly sprays around for horses that also work on dogs. I personally use Pyranha wipe n' spay. I use it on my horses, and my dogs, and it is the best that I have ever used. It is an oil based spray that you can just put on a rag and wipe their ears, and also their whole body. It is very strong, so a little goes a long way. Pyranha also carries a formula that is all natural called zero bite. That works really well also.
Repel-x lotion works wonders for keeping the flies off. It's marketed for horses also but is super easy to apply which makesit nice. An old associate of mine used plain vasoline and that also seemed to do the trick.
You don't know how good a headbut is until you get it from your cat!
