OK.... i have been told by numerous people that my rott is going to be ruined because she got knocked up by a mutt... i need to know if that is true or not am i still going to be able to have purebreed puppys next litter or no???
Technically and scientifically, no your female will not have any influence from the mutt after the mutts sperm die's off in about 5 days. She doesn't magically carry the mutt's DNA around for any longer than the sperm can live.
However on the contrary, there is alot more knowledge to be gained on your part about genetics and reproduction before any planned breeding attempt. Lack of knowledge could ruin or kill your bitch if put in the wrong situation in a breeding scenario.
Did YOU allow her to breed with the "mutt" and what kind of dog was it? WHY was she not being watched while she was in heat??? This is very irresponsible to say the least. How about doing the world a favor and having her spayed...help control the pet population and Bob Barker will love you for it!
On the other hand, no, she should not suffer any permanent damage otherwise and if bred with a different male later, she will produce offspring of his DNA. However, I strongly advise you to spay her. Responsible breeding is just that...being responsible and it's not for everyone.
Best of luck!
Don't worry about tomorrow; it has never happened before.
I think ALOT MORE research needs to be done. I believe you need to spay this bitch, do several years of research on breeding, get a mentor, maybe go to a show, then purchase the best dog you can and go from there. Having a litter of puppies, any puppies is a huge risk to the bitch. Having her unspayed can cause all kinds of additional health problems. There are alot of things to consider before breeding, and if you cant even do the simplist thing(keeping her from an intact male while in heat), you should not breed.
