My 16-year-old Chesapeake-Husky mix used to weigh 64 pounds; nowshes 54. Tory seems to eat well usually, but she keeps losing weight. She seems healthy - though I haven't taken her to a vet for a checkup, as I don't intend to treat cancer or anything like that.
It seems like it's probably an absorption problem. Any ideas about food, additives, hormones etc that might help her get more nutrition out of her food?
just because shes old and losing weight doesnt mean she has cancer. its a personal decision to treat cancer but it could be something easy to treat as worms. id take her in for a checkup...yeah it could be cancer among a bunch of other things but the only way to know for sure is to get the checkup. a checkup doesnt mean you have to do certain treatments but at least if its something curableyou can treat her and she can live "old age" in happiness. good luck!!
It wld be interesting to know what you do feed your dog??? there are specific foods you can give to older dogs or even feeding puppy food. Def take to vet though cld be teeth or worms cancer cld b way down on the list of probs it wld be well worth it to get your dog checked out. Goodluck and let us know how you go
