Ok, I'm posting this for my mom so please bear with me. She has had a long hair chihuahua, not tea cup but very small, about 3 lbs I'd say. She had recently been having cold like symptoms so she was taken to the ER Urgent Care Vet last night. She was given a shot, I'm not sure of what, and a prescription for Metronidazole. Everything seemed fine, until today when they gave her the AM dose, and the dog died. Is the Metronidazole to blame for the death of the dog?
First off, I'm sorry for your lost. Second, the cold like symtoms is more than likely to be kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection. That does not kill a dog in one day, so yes, I would have to think that the medication is too blame (if that was the only thing done fifferently) but your vet would have do to tests to make sure, that is the only way know.
The medication given was for bacteria. I doubt it was the med, specially if it was given at right dose. Really even given one high dose, the medication (as far as I know) has never killed any dog. It was must likely a severe infection, and it was not caught soon enough. I am sorry for your loss.
Thank you for the replies. I guess we will never know for sure. My mom didn't want to take her back to be tested for anything after she passed, she just wanted to let her go in peace. I appreciate everything.
