I posted my behavioral problem under training tips, but didn't get any responses, so i'm going to shorten it here.

I have two wonderful little dogs, a pomeranian and a chihuahua. I've had my chi since she was 11 weeks old, but my pom i got recently and she was 9months when I got her. I knew pomeranians were known to be yappy, but she was really good about not barking...was. Our apt flooded so we had to move in with my fiance's parents for a month to move everything and find a new place. They have a pug who just barks all day long at everything, and everytime someone rings the doorbell. Well now my lil one barks everytime I leave her and my chi has this lovely high pitched whine. She came to me with a bit of seperation anxiety and is terrified of her crate. The people who had her before me left her in her crate all day and neglected her. We had to move into another apartment, but her constant barking when I'm gone might get me evicted, I've already been warned and can't afford to move.

Any ideas?

There are medications that your veterinarian can prescribe for separation anxiety. However, you may want to look into doggie daycare - if you can find the right daycare - you may not need to medicate them.

Rescue remedy (herbal drops) may help. There are also anti-anxiety meds DAP (doggie anti-anxiety pheromones) that can be dispensed by atomizer, rather than starting out with prescribed medications.

It takes time, patience and slowly building trust and security. When I got my first Pyr, Angel, she was with me 24/7 because I was on vacation. The first day she was alone, she "ate" a love seat, peed in the house and a few other "fun" things. I bought a crate because I was afraid she'd injure herself. She did. She did a serious number on her muzzle trying to get out of the crate... A trip to the vet sent us home with the DAP atomizer.

I purchased a few toys that would keep her busy & occupied (Buster cube, Kong with treats, wiggly giggly ball to name a few). We began working on longer times in the crate (placing her & her toys in before I left for work & leaving her in a short while after I came home) with the atomizer about 5 feet away. Within a week she was calm and I could leave the crate door open for here when she was home alone.

Dogs are like young children who scream & cry when mom leaves. If mom makes a fuss over it, they will continue. If mom reassures them that all is well and that will return time and time again, the crying becomes less, the child's attention is diverted and the trauma is reduced.

Ok, Ill look into it thank you for the suggestions :) I've started to put her and her "sister" in the crate at night to sleep. and she seems to be doing better. She still barks a little when I leave, but i've been distracting her with food before i leave and that seems to help. I live by a doggie day care place, so I'm going to look into how much it is and if they seperate big dogs and little dogs. Thanks again :)
