I just bought a new bag of the Natural Balance Potato Duck flavor for my dogs. It's the same product they've always eaten Ever since I got the new bag, one of my dogs have been throwing it up. The other will not touch it. I'm looking at the ingredients on the bag and it seems there are a lot more things added. It may just be my imagination though. I switched to giving my dogs chicken and rice for now and they were both fine. When trying to switch them back after a week though, the same thing happened. One threw it all up, the other sniffs it and won't touch any of it.
Has anybody else experienced the same issue with Natural Balance food recently?
It looks like they actually have changed. I wrote the company and received this response:
Hello, Thank you for contacting Natural Balance regarding the Potato & Duck Formula. Please know that we have implemented a recent change to this formula. As Natural Balance continues to grow, we have found it increasingly difficult to obtain the quality and quantity of duck meal from the United States that our rigorous standards require. In order to address this issue before supply becomes a problem, Natural Balance has decided to add more fresh duck and potato protein to the Potato & Duck formula. We have found this adjustment enhances the palatability and performance of the product, but may lighten the kibble color. We have been feeding this formula for the last six months to many of our own Natural Balance pets and it has produced exceptional results. A very small percentage of dogs with sensitive stomachs may experience a temporary digestive upset with the formulation change to the Potato & Duck Formula. For this limited number of dogs, we recommend feeding smaller, more frequent meals, combined with the old formula (if available), over a 5 to 7 day period to adjust to the new formula. You may also try any of our other LID formulas, which include the Sweet Potato & Fish, Sweet Potato & Venison, or the Lamb & Brown Rice. Have a good day.

I have to say that the exact same behavior of my two dogs has led me to this site. As soon as I bought the new bag of the different formula, one threw it up all over the place, and the other threw it up then would not touch it. Since a dog cannot talk to us, I will interpret their body language to mean that they have had enough of the new formula. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I was very worried about other health problems.
ARRRRR!!!! Thank you for pointing this out. I didnt put it together, my husband feeds the dogs and I noticed the color looked different, didnt think much of it. --He noriced the color is different and thinks it's also a different size kibble....anyway, of our 6 dogs we had one vomiting. She HAS stopped and has continued eating it, but sheesh....what were they thinking changing things and not WARNING us?
I'm glad I found this forum !My Shih Tzu stopped eating her Natural Balance Potato and Duck, and I noticed the color was gray instead of the usual color, and not the same scent .I returned that bag only to find the new bag was the same ! What are all of you doing about this ?Kiley is very fussy and it took me a long time to find a food she liked !
I am glad I found this discussion, and unhappy that my suspicions were confirmed. I found this thread while doing a search to see if the formula had changed.
I know this is a dog forum, and my issue concerns my cat. She has severe food allergies, and breaks out in hives and loses her hair if she eats anything she is allergic to (which is basically everything!)
Natural balance Green Pea and Duck was the only food she didn't react to. I even tried a different brand of green pea and duck, and she had a bad reaction.
The last bag of NB seemed lighter in color and larger in size. I bought it about three weeks ago. Lately she has has seemed to feel under the weather, and yesterday, I noticed she is losing the hair on the back of her legs. She has two bald spots forming, and she is scratching like crazy.
I have no idea what to do now. NB was the only thing that worked for her.
I too had the same issues as the above with the Potato and Duck formula. I changed to the vennison and sweet Potato. I want to let you know that they have now changed that line as well causing a repeat of the whole potato and duck change senario. My dog is 12 and is now having some serious issues, I am consulting the vet to see if the food ingredient change has caused it or the lack of good nutrition for the past sereral weeks, or just coincedence. I suggest not using this food manufacturer any more. Who changes a formula of food, intended specifically for animals with food issues, and doesnt tell anyone? Also, I find it hard to believe that their dogs liked it.
