So you mixed two breeds on purpose because you were CURIOUS? For God's sake, what if I wanted to breed you to a mountain goat to see what would become of your babies? I'm sorry but you are wrong for doing this. What are you going to do with the puppies? Sell them as "exotic, rare, mutts" or just wait until the 'cuteness' wears off and dump them on the side of the road or take them to the shelter??? How irresponsible can you be???
On the other side of the spectrum, AgentSmith, if you're out there...THIS is WHY my dogs only go to approved homes!
Sorry, OP but you were WRONG for putting your bitch through a pregnancy and whelping to satisfy your curiosity!

Well in all fairness, I think you are being played to illicit a response.. but I do understand that by screening, the dog wouldn't go to someone who would breed them like this.. My point though, has been that they'd simply get a dog somewhere else. The only thing the screening does is prevent them from getting a dog from you... Overpopulation will occur irregardless...
Of course, I don't think breeding like this is a good idea... I'm certainly with you there. Not because of the mixed breeding, but more because she will have a hard time finding these dogs a home... and they might not be healthy...
Anyways, to give a good idea of what any mix could look like, you can just use google images. It will always give at least a few examples..
Irresponsible? How is it irresponsible? We knew what we were doing. We'd never give our puppies to a shelter or leave them on the side of the road. That's terrible and not everyones as heartless as the low lifes that do that. That's never ever crossed my mind. We have a big house with a big back yard so if all of them didn't sell... so what? They'd just become ours. Sorry you have to come and put a lecture out in this thread as if everyones the same. All I was asking if anyone knew or if anyone had one to give me some insight of what they'd look like. But anyways I already found out so your single minded opinion isn't needed anymore.
I'm not single minded. I'm what's called responsible.
I guarantee you one thing...I'm not the ONLY person in this forum who will be upset at what you have purposely done to this dog. I've never heard of such nonsense as breeding two dogs to see what their puppies look like. You're selfish!

Well the most you can do in this situation is make sure that the dogs find good homes. Its good that you won't consider dumping them or giving them up... I would just try to make sure each one gets their own home though. Having 5 or 6 dogs running around is too much for 99.9% of all people. Someone in that situation might not have any choice..
I would give them away for a small fee. Something to ensure a person is serious enough about taking the dog, but not enough to discourage taking it. There is probably no need to do this with family or friends, but definitely with strangers.
As far as what it will look like, everything I found will likely look a lot like a beagle/basset hound.
I couldn't even imagine that conception! That's just like my very first dog. The breed...Get this... Beagle/German Shepherd mix. She was certainly cute and very healthy and good natured but what were they thinking. I don't know if it's just me but I thought that was odd. I've only ever seen Beagles as being small dogs. And the German Shepherd that I own is not exactly huge but he is A LOT bigger than a Beagle. As far as breeding just to satisfy your curiousity on what they would look like, that is cruel. I'M SORRY OP BUT BREEDING LIKE THAT ISN'T FAIR TO THE ANIMAL. I'm not trying to be rude but...that's how I feel about it.
"I've seen a look in dogs eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts." -- John Steinbeck
"Female basset." (Thank heavens for that at least, although I seriously doubt it would have mattered to you had it been the other way around.)
"Irresponsible? How is it irresponsible? We knew what we were doing."
Well, for one thing your boyfriend's Basset Hound is still immature & at least a year too young to be going through the emotional & physical stress of a pregnancy, birthing, & mothering - but what do you care, eh?
As for knowing what "you" were "doing"; I'm SO very curious, how much thought & effort did you have to expend to put a intact male dog together with a unspayed female dog in heat? Let's just say for the sake of "discussion", your boyfriend's dog gives birth to 6 puppies, who go on to each have 6 more puppies - each - (uh, ah hem, for you brain surgeons out there who are deliberately breeding mutts for kicks, that's 36 more puppies on the first go-'round), adding to the tragic overpopulation problem, record abandonments, & record surrenders to pounds & shelters nationwide (which is leading to record euthanasias). And, of course, those puppies will have puppies, ad infinitum, you get my drift.
Take a nice "sentimental journey" through any large metropolitan area's Petfinders web site, type in Basset Hound mix &/or Pomeranian mix & see what you get. Heck, wait 6 months or so & you'll probably find some of your puppies on there! -
Surely you don't consider yourself a "dog lover" when you're so obviously just one more careless & irresponsible backyard breeder. So sad...

Dogs have taught me all I need to know about life, love, loyalty, & laughter; & (heartbreakingly), loss & "letting go" of a loved one as well. God bless ‘em…
While I don't agree with OP's actions, I do have to say that a lot of people here seem very judgemental, and are rather harsh to people who "make mistakes" or have differing opinions.
I know many people have strong opinions, but from what I see, most of you blow a perfectly good opportunity to be genuinely helpful. By being angry and insulting, no one is ever going to listen to what you have to say. You immediately become an adversary to the person, and people don't ever agree with their "enemies".
You might as well just post the lyrics to your favorite songs, or paragraphs from the declaration of independence. Your post will have just as much influence on the OP as the sharp attacks I see being flung around on a daily basis... There is a 99% chance you are just going to be ignored.
You have to make a decision whether you want to vent, or you actually want to help people with their problems. If you are nice about it, you might have a chance to change something.
