My dog, a 6 year old Maltese and I moved in with my boyfriend more than 2 months ago. Before the move, I didn't have any problems leaving him alone at home when I go to work. Since the move, he hasn't adjusted and would bark all day when I'm at work. I have created a space for him similar to what he was used to at our old place, but it's not helping. He wouldn't even touch his kong when he's confined. He used to be able to handle being alone. Can anyone give me some advise please?
Adjustments to new environments can take 4-6 months or even a little longer. Try leaving something personal of yours with him...a shirt, nightgown or anything wtih your scent on it. He is probably experiencing some anxiety about the new surroundings and the new man that he is sharing you with.
Be patient, give him some time. He will come around.
Best of luck!

I agree with the member above dogs see moving house as migrating i actually walk with my dogs from my old house to my new house which was 6 miles plus a few weeks before we moved i brought something with the scent of the new house home to the old house so they could familiarise and they weren't aloud in the rooms until i give the order saying this i think your dog will adjust in the end just don't feel sorry for her she'll pick up on this even if your not act happy around her she'll soon adapt Paddy
