I am really wondering if anyone has ever heard of a new 7 week old puppy (of any kind, mine happens to be an Old English Mastiff) that when I took him for a full examination after receiving him from.....I wont say, yet! He was infested with fleas, has round worms horrible, one one testicles had dropped and after the lab work, they found the parasite coccidia.
This puppy is so amazing, he is smart, very underweight, we think appx. 20 lbs., but all of the above can be explained, but the full anal glands have me baffled.
If you know anything, please advise! Thanks, Magnum's Mom
This is his latest picture, he is still napping. He looks....KINDA RELAXED & HAPPY!
You are probably going to have to watch those anals all his life. If they are that full already, he may have trouble empting them. I don't think it is unusual, but being a dog groomer, I see it all the time. As far as the rest of the issues, great breeder. The testicle, I wouldn't worry about. My vet swore my boys wouldn't drop, he is now almost 5months and finally dropped. He still sucks them both up when he get nervous.
love him for everything he is, and thank god that all of his issues are easily treated.
Give him time to see if his other testie will drop. If he does not its called cryptorchid. When he gets neutered it will be a bit more invasive, same for a female. If he does not drop, another reason not to breed. His babies will have the same problem. Not a showable dog either, they have to be fully intact. Visibly both dropped.
Try to give him more roughage. I do agree too, keep an eye on the glands every bath, check them.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
At 7 weeks he has time for the teste to drop (too young to be away from the breeder already though) I would give it time, it may likely drop as he gets older, if not it will be an additional small cost for the vet at neuter time.
Anal glands, while it is odd for them to be full already that young, I would say it will be a chronic issue for him.
Thankfully the rest is fixable.....shame he came that way though.
