Has anyone got any advise on training my 7 year old female calico queen from not swiping me when I have been stroking her, she has a typical attitude of a queen. I'm new to this site and would like some advise on this. Please can anyone help me? Can she be trained at this age?
Have you had her since she was a kitten? And is this a new behavior? If she has been doing it all her life, then it will be nearly impossible to break this habit. Is she trying to tell you she is not done and she wants you to keep petting? Or is she getting over stimulated by the petting and getting mad? If that's the case, then you need to pet her more gently and for a shorter time. Maybe stick to scratching her chin and head. But if she is just not ready for you to stop, then you need to learn to trick her by stopping from a point near her head and pulling your hand back unexpectedly when you are out of range of those front paws. Tell her NO consistently and refuse any further attention until she behaves better. My Himalayan Chelsea can be that way at times but I can see it in her eyes when she's getting fiesty so I stop giving her any attention. I have 6 cats and each has different preferences around petting. I just adapt to each girl and do it her way.

Our mutt of a barncat, Barney, does this, too. Being a first-time cat owner, I've learned 1) He gets overstimulated from rough petting; 2) I pull my hand away sssslllloooowwwwllllyyyy, especially if I've been petting his chest/belly area.
