I purchased a 7 week old Shih Tzu Puppy today and she has thrown up 8 times in 4 1/2 hours. She has had continual diarrhea and refuses to eat. She has high energy and is running aroung like nothing is wrong. She has had her first set of shots and is suppose to be fine. Also, she has not grown all of her teeth, is that normal? Please help me!
I purchased her from a pet store. The had only had her for less than 24 hours, so I don't know if they continued the same food. She will drink water, but she then throws up so I took it away about 20 minutes ago. There is a 24 hours health return, but she must first be seen by a vet and deemed unhealthy. Also, they will not reimburse vet bills.
Welcome to the world of puppy mill dogs. Pet stores always get sick dogs in because they came from a puppy mill. She had not been taken care of all, and I would check with your local dog laws. In most states it is illegal to sell puppies under 8wks. I am not surprised, I would run her to an emergancy vet asap. If she cant keep anything down, she could be dead by morning. She proabably has Parvo.
I have been told by several people that is what she has, but they said that she has been dewormed. I don't know what to do, I have called every vet around and either they are closed or they will not accept new patients after hours. If I give her water and put her in her pen, she goes to sleep and is able to hold down the water. She has now gone an hour without vomiting or diarrhea. If it worsens, I will drive to the next town, over an hour away. If she is stable, I am just going to try to take her back tomorrow even though they said that she must have a note from a vet stating that she is unhealthy. I mean it is pretty obvious that she is unhealthy, it doesn't take any degree just common sense. Hopefully they will work with me.
I wouldn't wait. Stable or not, she could die over night. Parvo has nothing to due with worms, it is a puppy disease. Just becuase she was wormed, doesn't mean she doesn't have worms. It usually takes several treatments.
I hope you learned a lesson here. NEVER BUY A DOG FROM A PET STORE.
If it was my puppy, I would have driven her over 2hrs to emergancy vet in the next state(from me) if I had to.
please look in the phone book for an animal hospital. They will see you 24/7. With your puppy's symptoms and age, it may not survive the night. You can deal with the petstore later- now you need to act. Take the dog to an EMERGENCY VET NOW.
