I have a 1 year old labrador that is an only outside dog. But since its summer and i live in arizona i cannot play with as much as i would like to because of the extreme weather. so i brought him inside after he went to the bathroom and put him in an enclosed area and played around with him for a little bit. but i let him on the carpet and the second he got on he started going pee. i scolded him and sent him outside. i brought him back in a while later and he went to the bathroom again! advice please
He doesn't understand. You have left him outside, and he can pee where he wants. Now you bring him inside and he cant, he doesn't get it. You have to go back to basics, and treat him as if he was a puppy again. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk, and so does he.
The carpet is full of scents that he is not used to. A dog's sense of smell is 1000 more sensitive than a humans. He can detect all of these unfamiliar odors and he wants to mark them as his!
You cannot scold him and put him back outside. He doesn't understand and there's no sense in making outdoors seem like a punishment.
ONLY when you catch him IN THE ACT slap your hands together and firmly say "NO" and clean up the mess then move on. Lead him to the door and walk outside with him. Once he uses the bathroom outside, as you desire, then lead him back inside and give him a treat! He will eventually get the idea.
Best of luck!
